The church is 13th century in origin and is closely linked with Wilcot and Oare.

In 1672 it fell into disrepair and needed complete rebuilding in 1751.

The present church is shorter and dates from 1785.Archaeological work has exposed an aisle chapel and other parts of the original building.

The Churchyard contains the grave of John Reeve (“The Ghost of Pitt Pond” (also known as Pit Pond) is a piece of Wiltshire folklore.  The legend centres on a tragic tale of unrequited love and suicide at a pond near Huish Farm, published by writers like Dudley Costello in the 1800s – find out more here) also the wife of the actor David Niven, related to the Rollos family of Cold Blow in Oare.
